Promo & press codes

Download codes let you hand out free or advance copies of a release — the press-seeding workflow, end to end. Generate them in bulk, send one per outlet, and see exactly who claimed what.

What codes are for

A download code grants a copy of a specific release without payment. They’re built for seeding reviewers, podcasters, radio, and playlisters — including before a record is public. Find them under Promo & Press Codes in your dashboard.

Generate a batch

Pick a release, choose how many codes, and generate. You can create up to 100 distinct codes in one go — one per outlet — so each recipient gets a unique code you can trace.

  • — Set uses per code: single-use (one claim each), a fixed number, or unlimited.
  • — Export the batch as CSV right after generating — the list downloads to your machine so you can paste codes into your outreach.

Tip

One single-use code per outlet is the cleanest setup: the CSV becomes your press list, and the redemption view later tells you which outlets actually claimed — a real read on who’s engaged, not just who you emailed.

Pre-release codes

Codes work on releases that aren’t public yet. A draft or scheduled release is marked “pre-release” in the code generator, so you can put advance copies in reviewers’ hands weeks ahead of the street date. The code itself is the grant — the recipient doesn’t need the page to be live.

How people redeem

Recipients go to the redeem page and enter their code. There’s no signup wall:

  • — A guest enters the code and an email, and gets time-limited download links straight away.
  • — A logged-in fan redeems into their account, and the record becomes a permanent, re-downloadable part of their collection (recorded as a comp, never a sale).

Tracking redemptions

Every code shows its usage — a used / total count — and every redemption is recorded with the claimant (account or email) and the date. So a batch of press codes doubles as an engagement report: you can see which outlets actually pulled the record down and when.

Killing a leaked code

If a code leaks or goes to the wrong place, deactivate it from the codes list. That stops any further redemption immediately while leaving the history intact, so you don’t lose the record of who already claimed it.

Labels can generate codes for any artist on their roster — see Managing your roster.
