Fan Guide
Discover metal, support artists directly, build your collection, and connect with fans who share your taste.
Getting Started
metal.club is a platform for metal fans to discover music, buy directly from artists, build a public collection, and connect with other fans who have great taste. Every purchase you make is a public act — your collection is your identity, and other fans can follow you and discover music through your taste.
No. You can browse releases, read editorial content, and explore artist pages without logging in. You need an account to buy music, follow artists, build lists, or participate in Drop Rooms and community discussions.
Sign up and choose the fan role. You'll set your username, select your favourite genres, and optionally add a bio and avatar. Your profile is public by default — other fans can find you, follow you, and discover music through your collection.
metal.club has several discovery paths:
- — Discover page — browse by subgenre (Death Metal, Black Metal, Doom, Thrash, Sludge, etc.)
- — Labels — browse by label, which often signals a consistent sound or scene
- — Fan profiles — follow fans with great taste and see what they buy
- — Editorial — staff picks, scene reports, and interviews
- — Credits — click any producer, mixer, or mastering engineer to see every release they've worked on
- — Collection overlap — “fans who own this also own” on every release page
Tip
Buying Music
On any release page, select your format (digital, vinyl, cassette, CD, or a bundle), then click Buy. You'll see a checkout with:
- — The price confirmation
- — Payment via card
After purchase, digital downloads are available immediately from your collection. Physical orders are fulfilled directly by the artist.
Go to /redeem and enter your code. Codes are provided by artists — they're often included with physical orders, sent to early supporters, or given to press and radio. After entering a valid code, download links for all tracks appear immediately. Links expire after 30 days, but you can redeem the code again if needed (up to the code's maximum uses).
Yes, on releases with name-your-price enabled. These show a price field you can edit — type any amount at or above the minimum. This is the most direct way to financially support an artist you want to back.
Everything you buy appears in your collection, on your profile. Each release page has a “Download release” button for that album, and your collection page has a “Download collection” button that packages every release you own into a single zip. You never lose access to music you've bought — download it again any time.
Sold-out formats are shown dimmed on the release page. If the artist has opened a Vault for that release, you can signal demand for a repress using the Demand Counter. Artists are notified when demand reaches their threshold and can greenlight a new pressing directly through the platform.
Collection & Lists
Your collection is your public identity on metal.club. Every purchase you make appears on your profile. Other fans discover music through collections — yours matters.
Each month, you can pick up to 9 albums as your monthly shortlist — not a single pick, but a ranked list of up to 9 records you loved that month. These appear on your profile and feed into the platform's monthly charts, which show which albums were most chosen as monthly picks across all fans.
Tip
At the end of the year, you create a ranked list of your top albums. These are ordered by rank (1 being your favourite). Your AOTY list appears on your profile year-round and contributes to the annual chart. You can update your list at any point during the year.
Yes. From your AOTM or AOTY list page, click the Export button to generate a shareable image. Two templates are available: square (1080×1080) and story (1080×1920). The image includes album artwork and the metal.club logo.
Share directly to Instagram, X, or Facebook from the export screen, or download as a PNG.
Badges appear on your profile based on your behaviour on the platform. They show the depth of your support for artists. Examples:
- — Full Discography — you own every release by an artist
- — Top Supporter — you're in the top 10% of purchasers for an artist
- — Early Supporter — you followed an artist before their first 100 followers
Visit any fan's profile and click Follow. Their purchases and list updates will appear in your homepage feed. Following fans with taste that overlaps with yours is the best way to discover music that's right for you — better than any algorithm.
By default, your collection and lists are public — this is central to how discovery works on metal.club. You can make your profile private in Account Settings, which hides your collection from other users but keeps your following feed and purchases intact.
Drop Rooms & Vaults
Drop Rooms are live events around new releases. Vaults are milestone events for existing records. Both give you a place to be present at a cultural moment — not just a consumer, but part of the scene.
A Drop Room is an event page built around a new release. Before the release, you can join the room, set a reminder, and see other fans gathering. At the moment of release, the room goes live — buy buttons activate, the discussion opens, and the artist may post notes about the record. The room persists permanently as a discussion and sales page for the release.
Find Drop Rooms on the Drops page, in artist profiles, or in your homepage feed. Click “Join Room” to add yourself to the attendee list. You can also set a reminder so you're notified when the room goes live.
Tip
During a live Drop Room you can:
- — Post messages in the room feed (up to 500 characters)
- — React to posts
- — Reply to other fans and to the artist
- — Buy the release directly from the room's action rail
- — View pinned items from the artist (notes, schedule events)
A Vault is an anniversary or milestone event for an existing release — a 1-year, 5-year, or 10-year celebration. The most important feature is the Demand Counter: a live public count of how many fans want a repress. When the counter hits the artist's threshold, the artist is notified and can greenlight a new pressing. Pre-orders then open directly from the Vault page.
On any Vault page, click “I want a repress”. Your signal is added to the public counter. Each fan can signal once per Vault. The counter and threshold are visible to everyone — you can see how close the community is to triggering a repress.
Community
Broadcasts are messages sent by artists and labels directly to their followers. They appear in your homepage feed and in the Community section. Some broadcasts are for all followers; others are limited to buyers or early supporters of a specific release. You receive broadcasts from everyone you follow.
Reviews on metal.club are for verified buyers only. After purchasing a release, a “Write a review” button appears on the release page and in your collection. Write your thoughts in free text — there are no star ratings on metal.club. Your review is submitted for moderation and appears publicly once approved. Other fans can mark your review as helpful.
The Community feed on your homepage shows activity from everyone you follow — artists, labels, and other fans. This includes new releases from followed artists, broadcasts, recent purchases by fans you follow, and list updates. The feed is strictly chronological — there is no algorithmic sorting.
On any release page, click “Recommend” to send a direct recommendation to a fan you follow. You can add a short note. The recipient sees your recommendation in their notifications. This is the most personal discovery mechanic on the platform.
Yes. Direct messages to artists are available on their profile page. Artists can reply from their dashboard. DMs are private between you and the artist. This is intended for genuine fan-to-artist communication — not spam.
Account
Go to Settings → Account. You can update your username, display name, avatar, bio, and social links at any time. Your username appears in your profile URL (/fans/[handle]) — changing it will break any shared links to your profile.
Go to Settings → Notifications. You can control which events trigger notifications: new releases from followed artists, broadcasts, drop room reminders, low-stock alerts on wishlisted items, and recommendations from other fans.
Go to Settings → Dashboard. You can reorder and toggle the sections on your homepage: New Releases, Broadcasts, Reviews, Community, and Charts. The order you set is exactly how your homepage renders — there is no override.
Account deletion is permanent. Your collection history, lists, and reviews are removed. Your purchases are not affected — you retain access to your downloads. Contact privacy@metal.club to request account deletion. We may retain order records for legal and accounting purposes.
